Moving 20 km southeast of Taunsa Sharif city on the Indus river one can reach Taunsa Barrage. It is located in southern Punjab province of Pakistan. It was accomplished in 1958 and was designated a Ramsar site in March 1996. It has been recognized as the barrage with the maximum priority for rehabilitation. Urgent procedures on this barrage are required to avoid rigorous economic and social impacts on the lives of millions of poor farmers through interruption of irrigation on two million acres land and drinking water in the rural areas of southern Punjab.
